Cole Summers is a 2021 graduate Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York where he earned a bachelor's degree in jazz saxophone performance. He attended high school at Baltimore School for the Arts.

As a graduate of one of the foremost conservatories in the world, Cole has extensive experience writing and performing. Cole can break down the components of improvisation, making what at first seems insurmountable attainable. Cole is not flex-oriented. He is warm, gentle, and uplifting in his approach. If you want to learn saxophone, flute, improvisation, and/or music theory, Cole is the right teacher for you.

Cole Summers

From Cole: I can teach saxophone technique, with a focus on healthy practices to prevent overuse injuries, as well as music theory and improvisation on almost any instrument. Lesson focus is on playing music you enjoy, and on your personal goals, whether you’re a current student, or a former player and would like to get back into it. It is also fine if you have no formal goals and just want to experience the simple joy of playing an instrument for yourself. I believe genre is not a limiting factor for music education, so I am more than happy to explore any genre you personally wish to play. I am also happy to focus on fundamentals if that is what you are looking for—I think they can be quite enjoyable and meditative.

I have at least three possible ways to engage in lessons:

I can visit your home (within a mile of the B, F, G, or Q lines in Brooklyn, NY). (60 min) $100

I can provide lessons by video call. (60 min) $75

If additional support is desired for practicing during the week, I can supplement lessons with collaborative practice sessions by video call. (30 min) $40
